General information about your application:

Fugro Norway AS is a high technology company specialised in environmental monitoring, ocean observing and forecasting systems. The SEAWATCH Wind LiDAR Buoy represents the next generation of multi-purpose buoys tailored for the renewable energy industry. The buoy accurately measures wind speed and direction profile up to 300 metres, as well as directional waves, ocean currents profile and other meteorological and oceanographic parameters. The comprehensive site characterization capability of the compact buoy is being used in numerous environmental studies as the basis for offshore and near-shore energy yield- and environmental impact assessments, structural engineering design and offshore operational criteria.

Which energy problems or challenges did you have to address?

The high energy demand of the Wind LiDAR required a ten-fold increase of the SEAWATCH power system capacity. Therefore we were looking for a solution with high energy capacity for long autonomy offshore deployments.

Why did you select EFOY Pro?

Fuel cells win out over alternatives in terms of cost and energy density. Being an internal and protected system it gives predictable deployment time.

The Solution:
EFOY Pro 2800

The EFOY Pro 2800, the latest fuel cell generation, is the ideal power supply solution for this application.

How is the EFOY Pro integrated in your installation?

The EFOY Pro fuel cells are integrated with the SEAWATCH Power System, GENI data logger and telemetry & command system for remote monitoring.

How many EFOYs do you use and do you also combine other alternative power sources?

Typically one system is built with four EFOY Pro fuel cells combined with solar panels, with an optional wind turbine.

What are the benefits of using the EFOY in your application?

The EFOY Pro fuel cells are reliable, easy to use and have proven themselves in extreme conditions. Integrated in the compact SEAWATCH Wind LiDAR Buoy, they allow uninterrupted wind assessment campaigns with long autonomy.
