EFOY winter check

We’ve put together some useful tips for using your EFOY Fuel Cell during the winter season. Do the winter check now!

Fit for winter in 5 steps

1. Check the condition and functionality of your battery.

If you have manually adjusted the EFOY’s on/off voltage thresholds, we recommend resetting them to factory settings.

2. Check the EFOY for the most recent firmware.

Make sure that the latest firmware is installed on the EFOY. The latest firmware and instructions can be found here.

3. Check fuel cartridge levels and replace empty ones.

Use either the control panel, the EFOY app or the EFOY Cloud to re-set the fuel level to 100 % after replacing each EFOY fuel cartridge. This will help you correctly monitor the fuel level of the fuel cartridges.

4. Check the space below the EFOY energy solutions/housing.

Make sure the exhaust hose is clear and no snow or ice can accumulate there.

5. Check the solar panels.

Make sure the panel is facing south and has not been shifted by the wind. Clean your solar panels and remove any dirt that has accumulated on them.

EFOY test run in preparation for winter

Which EFOY Fuel Cell would you like to use for the test run?

EFOY Pro 900/1800/2800 &
EFOY 80/150

  1. Connect the EFOY to the Internet if it is not already connected.
  2. If there is an existing Internet connection to the fuel cell, the EFOY’s firmware will be automatically checked and updated if necessary, including the connected accessories. The current firmware can be found here.
  3. Check the fuel cartridge level of all fuel cartridges.
  4. Start a manual charging cycle. Please note that the battery voltage must be below 13.2 V for manual starting. If the battery voltage is too high, please connect a load or disconnect other charging sources.
  5. Allow the system to run for at least 30 minutes.
  6. If you are using the EFOY fuel cartridge manager, remove the fuel cartridge that the EFOY Fuel Cell is sucking from and wait until the system starts running with the next fuel cartridge. Repeat this process until all fuel cartridge connections have been tested to be fully functioning. Reconnect all fuel cartridges to the EFOY fuel manager.
  7. Let the system run for another 15 minutes.
  8. Disconnect the loads or reconnect the charging sources.

EFOY Pro 800/2400/12000 Duo

  1. Update the fuel cell firmware to the latest version using the EFOY updater, SFC Connect or via GSM modem. The current firmware can be found here.
  2. If you are on site and have the opportunity, start data logging via SFC Connect.
  3. Check the fuel cartridge level of all fuel cartridges.
  4. Start a manual charging cycle. Please note that the battery voltage must be below 13.2 V. If the battery voltage is too high, please connect a load or disconnect other charging sources.
  5. Let the system run for at least 30 minutes.
  6. In the case of an EFOY Pro Duo, remove the fuel cartridge currently in use and wait until the system starts running with the second fuel cartridge.
  7. Let the system run for another 15 minutes.
  8. Stop the data logging and save the data.
  9. Disconnect the loads or reconnect the charging sources.

Your EFOY is now ready for the upcoming winter period. If your EFOY encounters a fault during this test run, please contact your service partner or SFC Service.
