The application

Since 2009, three EFOY fuel cells have been implemented in combination with solar panels to power our working site in the Bavarian Forest on the Lackenberg (http://tereno.imk-ifu.kit.edu/Lackenberg/english.html). There we determine the sources and reduction of greenhouse gases in a uncleared wind throw area.

The challenge

The exposed location, the harsh weather conditions and the poor accessibility (only by foot) and a permanent operation requirement where part of our thoughts when configuring the power supply for the measuring location.

The solution:
EFOY Pro fuel cells

EFOY Pro fuel cells are available in various power classes, from 40 W output power for small power systems to a 500 W module for UPS solutions.

“Unique results can be achieved”

The use of the EFOY Pro fuel cells ensures a year-round operation of our measuring stations in remote areas with no access to grid. Therefore unique results can be achieved which are particularly valuable for the scientific research in that field.

Why did you select EFOY Pro?

EFOY Pro units perfectly fulfill the power requirements of the station in weather conditions where solar power is not sufficient. Plus the cartridges can be handled very easily and can be easily delivered to the measuring station.

How is the EFOY Pro integrated in your installation?

The EFOY Pro fuel cells are use in hybrid operation (12 V) with batteries and solar. The EFOY Pro fuel cell, the cartridge, the batteries and the electronic control devices are housed in aluminum boxes. At the moment there are four EFOY Pros in hybrid operation with solar panels in use.
