General information about your application:

Windkraft Service GmbH, Eisleben, is a service company for maintenance, inspection and repair of wind turbines. Windkraft Service is using EFOY Pro fuel cells in a customized self developed solution. This complete system is rented out to wind turbine manufacturers to supply the obstruction lighting during the construction phase of the plants.

Which energy problems or challenges did you have to address?

The supply of obstruction lights with electricity during construction of the plant is an important issue in Germany. The power supply is not available until the completion of the wind power plant. Therefore we have looked for alternative solutions to power the light. Generators are often very noisy and have a lot of issues and relatively high maintenance costs.

Why did you select EFOY Pro?

For equipment manufacturers, the innovative fuel cell solution is much cheaper than for example diesel generators: In 20 days of operation, the generators consume 8,000 liters of diesel, while the fuel cells require just 75 liters of their operating fuel. This not only saves costs, but also logistics. In addition, the environmentally friendly, quiet fuel cells offer significant CO2 savings compared to the combustion generators. The EFOY Pro fuel cell can be also, unlike the diesel generators, operated directly inside the wind turbine. That eliminates the measures necessary to protect the generators against theft and vandalism, leading to further cost savings.

How is the EFOY Pro integrated in your installation?

The EFOY Pro fuel cells are housed together with the battery and the fuel cartridge in an EFOY ProCube also supplied by SFC Energy. The EFOY ProCube is used directly in the gondola of the wind turbine.

We currently have 25 EFOY ProCubes in use, which are leased to different wind turbine installers.
