What type of application does your case relate to?

The supply of power to traffic counting systems from Hochtief at motorway construction sites along the A7 in Schleswig Holstein. GRS (grid replacement systems) have been set up for this. The supply to the GRS has to be assured over the entire construction period of 3 years. The traffic data is transferred via GSM to SST stations.

What problems or challenges needed to be addressed with your application?

Previously, the power supply was provided via the grid supplier at 400 V. The GRS were accommodated in mobile sea containers.

We opted for EFOY Pro because an independent power supply, including straightforward installation, can be guaranteed 365 days a year. Another particular benefit of this solution is its remote monitoring capability. This means that we can access the fuel cells conveniently from a distance. Messages are sent in promptly as soon as the fuel needs to be topped up.

How did you integrate the EFOY Pro in your application?

The fuel cells are operated in hybrid mode with batteries and solar panels (24 V). The EFOY Pro units have been installed with two DuoCard switches in the sea containers. Remote monitoring has been set up by UDOMI.

How many EFOYs do you use, or do you combine other energy sources too?

We currently have 10 fuel cells in operation which are combined with solar cells.

What benefits does the EFOY Pro bring you or your customer in your or their application? Are you able to quantify these benefits?

The fuel cells will remain in use until the final expansion of the motorway. Positive aspects include the cost savings, as no 400 V supply network needs to be set up to operate the SST traffic counting station.
