Sunstone is a British technology company focused on creating robust, innovative, renewable energy solutions helping to solve real world problems in a wide range of markets and sectors. They have been specifically designed, tested and developed in response to the challenge of providing high quality HD CCTV surveillance, wireless networks and satellite communications in challenging and hostile locations, such as oil fields, international borders and highways. In such environments, there are usually no fixed buildings, no power supply and no connectivity. So it is essential that the systems have been designed to be completely stand-alone, easily transportable and rapidly deployed.
The US-based customer selected Sunstone through an extensive evaluation process that assessed the company’s qualifications, green energy solutions, incorporation of world-class cyber security measures and the capability to provide surveillance in real-time around the world. Sunstone’s customer required a reliable and consistent power supply for surveillance and communication equipment equivalent to 50-100 W all year round. Due to the remote location, there is no hardwired power available. The goal is to deliver the required power with additional redundancy to all components and ensure constant uptime to the local cellular network. The customer required a security solution that could not only be fully autonomous, but could also support live streaming of surveillance and analytics to their video management system and monitoring center in the US. The deployment is required for 24 months. Sunstone worked closely with the customer to develop a solar and methanol Autonomous Remote Communication System (ARC System) that met the requirements and operated fully autonomously.
“We continue to be impressed by EFOY Technologies and their fuel cells.”
They are simple to integrate, use and deploy. Also, the integration of the fuel cell has meant we have increased the number and type of security sensors we can use on our platforms.
Simon Legrand, Sunstone Systems
The EFOY Pro 2800, the latest fuel cell generation, is the ideal power supply solution for this application.
Sunstone has integrated the EFOY Pro 2800 Fuel Cell into its ARC system (24 V), which provides a back-up power supply for the primary solar power source. In addition, they have an integrated battery system which provides up to 7 days energy without solar or methanol fuel. They control the fuel cell using the EFOY Cloud over the 5G cellular network. With an EFOY Pro 2800 Fuel Cell and a MT60 methanol tank, the ARC system is self-sufficient all year round. Sunstone are currently operating around 150 EFOY Fuel Cells throughout their business.
The integration of the EFOY provided extra reliability for the ARC Systems to keep functioning, especially during periods of poor solar performance and through the winter months. Moreover, with EFOY, Sunstone can expand the number and variety of security sensors on their platforms, including radar, thermal imaging and ANPR technologies. They chose EFOY Fuel Cells because of their ease of integration into their solar-powered platforms. The ability to remotely monitor and control the fuel cells is a major advantage. "Our experience working with EFOY and their resellers has been smooth and straightforward, and we have received ongoing support in delivering these innovative technologies to our customers.", said Simon Legrand, Chief Marketing Officer from Sunstone Systems.
