Point of departure

In 2018, according to the Indian government, all villages were considered electrified. However, not all communities could be connected to the national grid, so some received generators or small power plants. "Electrified," however, does not mean that every household has electricity. A village is considered electrified when it has the necessary infrastructure within its municipal boundaries and public buildings, schools, government offices, and at least 10% of private households are supplied with electricity.

Challenge

Impenetrable terrain, adverse weather conditions, low temperatures, prolonged periods of rain, and poor connectivity, characterize Northeast India. Especially for applications in remote areas such as the hinterlands of India’s northeastern region, there is often a lack of power for basic applications such as lighting, ventilation, as well as for operating entertainment systems, charging communications devices and other end-user devices.

The Solution:
EFOY Pro 12000 Duo

The EFOY Pro 12000 Duo is the ideal power supply solution for this application.

“High reliability & low maintenance ”

Fuel cells are increasingly in demand from Indian customers, especially government agencies, due to their high reliability, low maintenance and massive logistical advantages. They play an important role wherever conventional energy suppliers cannot be relied upon.

Solution

As part of the order from our Indian partner FC TecNrgy, SFC delivered 48x EFOY Pro 12000 Duo for a total of 24 solar hybrid microgrids. Each system consists of two EFOY Pro 12000 Duo fuel cells with a total output power of 1,000 watts, solar panels with 5,000 watts, Li-ion batteries and an intelligent energy management module. They are combined with a 230 volt AC inverter. The systems are used to supply energy to buildings and official facilities.

Because of its properties, methanol is also often used as an antifreeze, making it the perfect fuel for this type of environment. The very low consumption of EFOY fuel cells is a significant logistical advantage for supply compared to conventional diesel generators. The EFOY Pro 12000 Duo uses less than one liter of fuel per hour. On average, the units are operated no more than six hours per day, unless there is a dark period when the solar panel cannot generate power.

Result

The use of fuel cells simplifies fuel logistics and reduces the need to build up high fuel stocks, as is the case with diesel generators. Compared to conventional generators, EFOY fuel cells offer numerous additional advantages, such as quiet operation, low noise emissions and heat signature, and low waste heat production. In contrast to diesel gensets, fuel cells do not emit any environmentally harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) or particulate matter and supply all terminal equipment with electricity reliably and in an environmentally friendly manner. This makes them the perfect power supply solution for installations near homes, offices and rest areas, as they do not generate the continuous noise of conventional generators.
